Before visiting the shop
Decide whether the purchase is jewellery, a gift, savings bullion or another purpose. Record the indicative rate and its timestamp, then compare it with a quote taken at a similar time.
At the counter
Ask the seller to state each material part of the quote. Avoid relying on a single verbal total.
- Karat and fineness
- Gross weight and net gold weight
- Stones or non-gold components
- Rate and weight unit
- Making and wastage charges
- Taxes or other additions
- Testing, return, exchange and buyback terms
Before payment
Read the invoice while the item and quote are still in front of you. Names, weights, purity, charges and seller details should match what was agreed. Keep the invoice and any certificate with clear photographs of the item.
